they should've released the DLC the day the base game is finished
So unfinished game got unfinished DLC that's funny.
i played this game for well over 200 hours but i had to stop after an update that unoptimized it somehow making combat with people or the dinos virtually impossible, this was months ago and the game is still running terribly on a pretty high end rig. i won't be buying this DLC till the game runs at something resembling a solid frame rate.
I need to buy Ashley's necklace for my best friend OwO That is too cute! I also kinda wish AH was dedicated to Ark to get to the levels of complexity seen in the footage here but I'm also thankful they're not. I like how things are~
i think this will defiantly lead more early access games putting out paid dlc before the base game is done. i think ark has done a great job with the early access since it launched. i havnt put much time into the game but a lot of people enjoy it. but paid dlc before the base game is done? every other developer will look at this a say , "hey thats a smart idea. lets make paid dlc before i our game is even done too!" early access games already have it hard enough as it is, and now it seems like developers will make it even more of a head case. i just hope that enough people dont buy into this but thats not going to happen
comparing this game to lets say a game like csgo, h1z1, or 7 days to die the quality of game in its early access form far outdoes them. even with the bugs this game fully competes with larger titles from larger companies who release shitty versions of their games at launch then charge you months later to play the game you wanted at the start. they have always worked on the main gameand have promised to keep on doing so. honestly this game plays better gtav online
If the DLC represents the polish players can expect with main game when it completed, why is the main game not to this level of polish yet
you wouldnt notice it casually playing but the new dlc is smaller. not by much but enough that alot of the problems with the main game doesnt happen as much
It seems shady that they said they were gonna release the DLC soon after the game launched but then they were like, nahhh, just give it to em now! I don't think they are ever gonna realese a full game, I bet they will just drop the early access thing from the name at some point and hope people don't notice lol
I've always had issues with early access because of general bullshit. Sadly, I even predicted this bullshit would be pulled eventually
"We've always planned to release it close to the launch of the game, so why sit on it?"
Why the fuck did you start it?
The whole early access, and by some extension crowdfunding, is a pie in the sky concept that is more often than not abused. Case in point, Stomping Lands. Unless there is actual mediation over the process, I will never see early access as a good thing
why start it in the first place? because you need to think of the next thing before you go under. how do you think other studios work. they pull most of there team to do the bulk of the work on one title as the game comes closer to completion they split the team up to work on the next thing. That is how larger studios put out so much much games. the only difference here is that they are working with one title. you always look to the next thing or you will fall behind.
@ZacheryYoung Looking ahead is fine, but finishing the future project before finishing your current project is retarded
Let me drop an example on you. You are given homework. It's due next week. The next day, you're given an essay that's due next month. A week passes and you haven't finished the homework due that day. "But, I did my essay due next month." The teacher wont give a fuck. You have a whole month to do the essay, but you didn't bother finishing the homework due that day
It's fucking retarded
but they never stopped working on the main game so your example is pointless
OwO Ashley's dragon draper necklace is beautiful~
I don't play Ark so I don't know what promised features are missing but I'm not particularly surprised or appalled by this. A bunch of games (like Destiny for example) are actively patched in order to provide extra polish or add new, non-DLC features even after they are "fully released." If Ark simply stopped calling itself "early access" This probably wouldn't even be news worthy.
That being said, if they promised certain features that haven't been released yet then they should definitely finish those first before working on new things to sell.
They promised a functional and bug less game, but we all know some bugs and glitches will happen. I agree with you that this wouldn't be new if it was a fully released game. But this sets a bad future model for early access developers. They could just grab paid DLC money and then never finish a game. I enjoy the game, but I won't support a business model like they are trying to push.

That shouldn't be allowed to happen for early access games. No paid expansions until it is out of early access.
