rwby: ge is a paid early access game.
They never said it was going to be free to play when it's done, so your point isn't exactly relevant
Finally, they said it! A company's sole purpose is to grab money. Good on the studio for charging money for a game they said was going to be free. The point of "free to play" is to get the user base built up and microtransactions are to supplement the lack of initial revenue. Since they're going to charge less than retail for it, I don't see what the problem is with keeping microtransactions in the game. Also, it has a pretty solid user base so there isn't really a need for bringing in more people en masse. Let's face it, the players that would have played it if it were free weren't going to pay them anything anyway. So it's not exactly a loss on the part of the studio
Most research shows that players of free-to-play games actaully end up spending more than thsoe who buy games... even those containing micro-transactions... this is exactly why they made Team Fortress F2P - those hats made them a mint!
Fair point, but what I was trying to get at is the fact that free to play games don't make money upfront, they do it after the fact. In the long run, yes it will skew to players spending more on it, which is why a lot of bigger devs are trying to implement it into their full retail priced games and getting heat for it. The H1Z1 devs are trying to do a sort of hybrid where it's not as expensive to obtain, but will also be able to generate revenue after it's being played.
Game development is a business. People need to make a living. The problem I see with this situation is that they announced early on that the game would be free to play, but ended up not being able to support it. Seems like they didn't think the pay structure through before announcing it to the public. I also don't understand splitting the game into two. Their splitting up their audience and now have two games to support rather than one. At least with one, people might try the other mode and when it comes to support you're only dealing with one install. All in all, just seems like another miscommunication and planning by another company
Business is just ripping people off up to the point just before they all make a fuss about it (have you heard the phrase "leaving money on the table"?) It seems that a lot of the new devs on Steam Early Access are just not that great at juding how much they can rip people off before they get pissed - bet it happens the other way too but it just isn't so controversial and so you don't have news stories about it...
Please never compare this game to DayZ ever again, please, you just diseased Dayz, its heartbroken now :'(.. but good news is, if you paid for h1z1 early access, you dont need to pay anything for the new versions
2025 steam early beta Dayz
Yeah, you don't have to pay anything until they relaunch both games as different games from the Early Access and so everyone in Early Access has to buy it over again... (you think that's NOT going to happen?? Did you watch the above video?)
Just play Day Z. Or hell, play the mine craft versions of both games.
H1Z1 had micro-transactions EVEN THOUGH it was always going to be a paid game. That game is trash, even the Battle Royale was a waste of time. I hope they get sued by the creators of the Battle Royale film so they can't make this scam. I wish I could refund all of it ;-;
